I am no expert on dance. In fact, I know very little about it. My dance background consists of one year of ballet, six months of contemporary and watching others who have much more technique and training than me. However, having played instruments since I was 7 years old, I do know more than a little something about music and I can be completely lost in the way the human body utilizes itself to express both the music and the emotion behind it.

Most people understand the concept of God. But, this understanding and/or an acceptance of such vary greatly with each individual. What I interpret to be god may not be someone else’s belief and so on. What I think is extraordinary, however, is that we are free to define our own sense of spirituality versus religious conviction. One can be spiritually-inclined without being finitely religious and, I believe, one can be religiously-convicted without possessing much spirituality in their soul.

I’m not going to promote my beliefs here; I couldn’t even if I wanted to. I am a strongly spiritual person, but the way I perceive the universe is still open for my interpretation. Instead, I want to share this dance number from “So You Think You Can Dance”. Mia Michaels, a contemporary choreographer, set this number to Celine Dion’s version of “Ave Maria”. The movement and the musicality call to my spirituality. The idea of angels, presumably fallen, experiencing stigmata is a strong statement to present.

This piece moves me, although in what direction, I’m not certain.

I agree, this has to be one if not the best pieces from the incredible Mia…her work has always moved and touched me but most important she makes you feel…I love Mia and will never get tired of watching her work…

In my dance school we have to write a dance critique on this piece. Its really moving and makes you feel so much. Mia Michael made this dance about miscarage and you can really see how she as the dancers put that out to the audiance. Very sad story behind this dance.
